McFall leads the way in Brighton

Josh McFall, 13, led the charge against Alfie Wood of the Hastings West Hill club and showed great promise in a gutsy performance - his second in as many weeks.

Byron Grimwood, 15, took on local lad Fin Lawford at 56kg and did not disappoint. Young Grimwood has only been in the gym a matter of months but is already impressing the junior coaches.

Big Sam Hawkins boxed Archie Millis and although he took some big shots from the Brighton lad at this 79kg he more than held his own. Cole Powell, 15 and 45kg, went three one minute rounds with Jack Tonks of Felbridge and showed all the spectators that he is one to watch for the future.

Coach John Stuart said; “It was great experience for the lads boxing in front of an away crowd.

“They are all on the verge of going out and boxing competitively and the future of the squad looks assured.”

Senior club man Sher Khan dropped a close points decision to Hillcrest’s more experienced Eden Mainland on Friday at Felbridge.

Khan was under pressure from the Newhaven southpaw from the off and while he frustrated his opponent with his elusive movement he was unable to capitalise.

Despite a strong last round from the Broadfield boxer, it was Mainland who took the decision of the ringside judges.

Although a much improved performance, Khan will regret not making the most of his chances which saw his opponent sneak the win.
