CRAWLEY AC stars Charlotte Best and Dani Christmas are looking forward to an exciting summer on the track in a year infused with anticipation for the upcoming Olympic Games in London.

The girls started 2012 with an action packed training get-together with double Olympic champion Dame Kelly Holmes.

A total of 22 athletes and some of their coaches took part in the event at Tonbridge School Centre in Kent.

Charlotte, 26, and Dani, 24, took part in a weekend of intensive training including circuit training, aqua-jogging and pilates.

The weekend also included an anti-doping workshop and a goal-setting session with sport psychologist Dr Anna Waters.

The athletes were able to set out personal goals for the year and reflect on 2011, focusing on both the successes and where there could be room for improvement.

Charlotte, who has been part of the Aviva-sponsored mentoring scheme On Camp with Kelly since it started in 2004, spoke about her targets for the year: “I want to make it to Olympic Trials in the best possible shape. I need to get in some consistent training and then make it to the final, that’s the hardest thing!”

Dame Kelly said: “2012 is a big year for all athletes, for those who are aiming to compete at the London Olympic Games as well as younger athletes for whom it will act as a massive inspiration as they move forward with their sporting careers.

“The weekend was a valuable opportunity for the athletes to train together, set goals for 2012 and inspire each other to achieve their aims.”
