West Sussex Invitation League

Division 1

Crawley Eagles 180

Southwater 61

CRAWLEY Eagles maintained their amazing unbeaten run this season by beating Southwater by 119 runs.

This extended their run to 12 wins from 12 games so far this season, with two matches cancelled due to the weather.

Eagles had already clinched the Division 1 title the week before with three games still to play. This was their third league title triumph.

On Saturday Eagles won the toss and decided to bat and were in trouble early as they lost their first wicket Musawar when the score was only 15, Rehan Hasan then played one of his trade mark solid innings’ partnering a number of the batsmen who found the going too hard.

From 90-2 Eagles slumped to 130-8 with Southwater’s Nick Baker the main destroyer with figures of 5-59.

But Rehan stood strong and with the help of a goods partnership with the ever reliable Fallah (44) managed to get the final score up to a respectable 180 all out. Rehan made a brilliant 83.

In Southwater’s reply the Eagles bowlers bowled like the champions they are the skittle the strong batting line out for 61 all out!

The batsman just could not cope with Imran Mehboob quality swing bowling Imran figures of 12 over 1 for 16 did not tell the real story as most of the batsman just could not read his swinging deliveries.

This pressure on one end helped the other bowlers to get the success as Atif Ali bowled fast and finished with 3 wickets but it was Aamer Riaz was the biggest success with figures of 6 overs 6 wickets for 5 runs speaks volumes, this included a hat-trick.

With still a few weeks of this season remaining and the title already wrapped up it has been very impressive performance by the whole team, with everyone contributing to the overall success.

A special mention must go to the bowlers who have all performed whenever they have been asked, bowling out strong teams every time it was needed.

Committee member Ish Jalal said: “The success of the team is not only down to the players but also the management committee and all the people involved in the club their support and has been a major factor in this season success. It was a successful weekend for us as our second and third teams also won their respective matches.”
