ENGLISH Featherweight champion Ben Jones believes his next fight will be the ‘chance of a lifetime’ if he is to make a lasting impact in the sport.
He is to challenge for the vacant WBO Inter-Continental Featherweight title against former British and Commonwealth champion Steve Smith from Liverpool.
The bout will be top of the bill on Sky Sports TV and victory in the contest held at the Troxy venue in Stepney, East London should guarantee him a challenge for the WBO World title.
Jones, 29, from Northgate said: “It’s a great opportunity and is a different route to a world title than by fighting for British and Commonwealth belts.
“The prize is a world ranking and a chance to fight for a WBO World title which is the biggest and most recognised of the titles.
“It’s what I’ve been waiting for. I’m really thrilled!”
Jones revealed he had been close to fighting for the British Championship but the challenge had been turned down by current champion Lee Selby.
Tickets for the fight are availible from Jones himself priced £30 and £60 (ringside). Ring him on 07720045566.
