TALENTED young sports men and women across Crawley have an opportunity to access more than £400,000 of funding from the GLL Sport Foundation.

TALENTED young sports men and women across Crawley have an opportunity to access more than £400,000 of funding from the GLL Sport Foundation;

The aim of the shceme is to help them achieve their Olympic and Paralympic dreams at London 2012, Rio 2016 and beyond.

K2 Crawley – operated by Freedom Leisure on behalf of Crawley Borough Council - has partnered with the GLL Sport Foundation to offer support and help to develop aspiring and talented young athletes.

To be eligible for an award, young sportsmen and women must be affiliated to a sports club based at K2 Crawley.

Successful applicants in the area will be supported by financial and or training awards.

The training award will enable young sports men and women access to 100 centres including use of the K2 Crawley facilities.

They will also be granted free Freedom Leisure Connected Membership, allowing them to use any of the 35 Freedom Leisure venues in Sussex, Kent and Surrey – ideal if they are competing or travelling in these areas during their sponsored year.

Great Britain’s No.1 discus thrower Jade Nicholls, from Maidenbower received a GLL grant in 2011 and enjoys training at K2 Crawley.

‘I’m on course to qualify for the Olympic Games in London 2012 and am training as hard as I can to continue moving up the rankings,” she said.

“The better the facilities, the better the training and I’m thankful to K2 Crawley for giving me the perfect preparation platform for London 2012.”

Ed Cox, GB Kayaker, has already enjoyed the benefits of the GLL funding and free access to K2 Crawley.

“My goal is to compete in the 2012 London Olympics and I’m training as hard as ever to fulfil that ambition,” he said.

“The support of the GLL Sport Foundation and access to the superb facilities at K2 Crawley definitely help me achieve my training potential and that, in turn, gives me my best possible chance of competing for my country at this year’s Olympic Games.”

Successful applicants will benefit from financial and/or training awards to support their sport, travel and equipment and free access to K2 Crawley, itself an Olympic and Paralympic training venue for UK and international athletes competing at London 2012.

All applications must be completed via the GLL Sport Foundation website at http://www.gllsportfoundation.org and submitted by 20 February 2012.
