CRAWLEY Angling Society chairman Lenny Wells won a hat-trick of trophies and was runner-up in two other competitions as the club held its AGM and presentation night.

The man who does much for the sport in the town walked off with John Rice and Roger Unwin Memorial Trophies and clinched the Thames Trophy for a record-breaking ninth year.

Phil Harris was not present at Crawley Rugby Club to pick up his awards but as in recent years won an incredible seven trophies including the Newpond Trophy, Committee Tankard, Dave Wild Memorial, One Day Cup, Jubilee Shield, Home Championship Trophy and Championship Cup. Leigh Holman won the Predator Trophy, Jack Sorrell took the Senior Citizens Trophy, Pete Thompson lifted the Specimen Cup while Bruce Barnett claimed the Kirkman Trophy and Barry Wheeler added the Roach Trophy. Wells thanked John Parker, owner of The Tackle Warehouse in Manor Royal for donating the raffle prizes.

Wells said: “We’d love to see new faces at the matches. You don’t have to be an expert and there is the chance to learn new skills off people like Phil Harris who is happy to share his techniques.”
