The purpose is to raise money for the next chosen charity, Chestnut Tree House, which cares for 300 children and young adults from 0-19 years of age with progressive life-shortening conditions.

The concert will take place at the Goring United Reformed Church, Worthing, on Saturday, April 1.

Worthing Voices, led by Worthing-based conductor Shirley Linford, will be performing Brahms’ Requiem.

Shirley said: “This is a classic piece for classical music lovers but if you’ve not listened to a requiem before, come and give it a go. It is a wonderful piece of music and many people regard it as the best of all the requiems.

“We aim to perform choral pieces that can be enjoyed by a diverse audience, and in the past we’ve attracted music lovers of all ages.

“Brahms’ Requiem is a superb piece of choral music with a mixture of the dramatic and the beautifully lyric. We’d urge as many people as possible to come down and enjoy an evening of music, as well as helping to raise money for a worthwhile charity at the same time.

“We are pleased and privileged to welcome two outstanding soloists for this concert. Sarah Corp (soprano) and Jonny Davies (baritone) are local professional singers who will be leading the line for the concert.”

The concert starts at 7.30pm. Entry is free with a retiring collection for the chosen charity.

Spokesman John Wolstenholme added: “Worthing Voices are a locally-based choir who perform three concerts a year to help raise money for charities in the area. Charities that have benefited from concerts in the past include Marie Curie Cancer Care, The Children’s Society, Worthing Hospital Stroke Unit, CLIC (Cancer and Leukaemia in Children) and The Lavinia Norfolk Centre at The Angmering School.”

“We are always looking to welcome new singers so if you are interested in taking your singing in the shower a stage further, contact Shirley on 01903 783692.”
