Two unique songwriters come to Coolham Live Music Club

Their next gig is on Saturday, March 4, and headlining are David Migden & The Twisted Roots.

This uniquely original band have their feet in the blues but also call on jazz, soul, Americana, rock and the spirit of New Orleans funk to produce what they describe as ‘twisted American roots’.

David Migden is a highly original songwriter with a warm baritone voice. He’s also an accomplished trumpeter and pianist. Other band members are Joe Gibson (guitar/BVs), Graham Mann (keys/trombone/BVs), Phil Scragg (bass) and James Sedge (drums/percussion).

David was raised in Arkansas, and moved to the UK as a teenager. After touring Europe in the Lee Sankey Group with Matt Schofield and Ian Siegal, he teamed up with his current band, then called ‘the Dirty Words’, and they released their debut album, Second Hand Tattoo.

They went on to release their second album, Killing It, in 2012 and received glowing reviews.

The band’s reputation grew with radio play across the UK, Europe and the US and they won the prestigious New Brunswick Battle of the Blues, appearing at the Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival in Canada in September 2013.

The year 2014 brought a new album, Animal & Man, and a change of name for the band to The Twisted Roots.

Opening the evening will be singer-songwriter Lisa Marini and her Trio.

Lisa takes flavours from Latin America, with a hint of Gypsy found in a jungle, combined with a dash of delta blues. She has also been praised for her powerful voice.

Accompanying Lisa (who plays guitar and ukulele) will be Jack Tustin on double bass and Arthur Newell on drums.

Lisa has travelled extensively but is now based in London where she been building up a reputation as a great live performer.

After her home-recorded debut EP ‘From the Bedroom Den’ ended up on a documentary in New Zealand, she caught the attention of Time Out and Live Nation, who have been a massive support on London gigging circuit.

She also sold out the Jazz Café in Camden for the launch of her album, Summoned by a Foolish Magpie, which is already receiving rave reviews.

The gig will be at Coolham Village Hall and doors will open at 7.15pm.

Tickets cost £15 each and as there is no licenced bar, people are welcome to bring their own nibbles and liquid refreshments.
