Ferring blooms at summer show

MORE than 300 exhibits were on display at Ferring Horticultural Society's summer show.
A colourful display of dahlias and other garden flowers greeted visitors to the show in the Village Hall on Saturday, July 19.

Other exhibits included roses and sweet peas alongside hanging baskets and fruit and vegetable displays.


The cup winners on the day were:

Elizabeth Green – The Gladys Butler cup for her Rainbow's End display.
Sylvia Gregson – The Butler cup for her vase of mixed garden flowers.
Wink Power – The Garden Flowers cup for her vase of deep blue agapanthus.
Pamela Rolfe – The Adpar-Jones cup for one rose and the Fruit cup for the most points in the fruit classes.
Patrick Sims – The Sweet pea cup for most points in the sweet pea classes, the Rose cup for most points in the rose classes and the WHR cup for the most points in show.
Tricia Baldwin – The Gladiolus cup for her gladiolus spike.
Gwyneth Klemenz – The Hanging Basket cup.
Angela Fisher – The Vegetable cup for the most points in the vegetable classes.
Kathleen Hillier – The Williamson cup for her cherry and almond cake.


The class winners on the day were:

Mrs E. Green – floral arrangement rainbows end
Mrs S. Barrell – floral arrangement
Mrs N. Drew – petite arrangement and a simple bowl of flowers
Mrs S. Gregson – mixed garden flowers
Mrs W. Power – garden perennials
Mrs G. Burgess – annuals, phlox three stems perennial and runner beans dish of three
Mr P. Sims – pansies five stems, roses clustered flowered three stems, pinks three stems, sweetpea cordon five stems two cultivas, sweetpea cordon five stems one cultivar, phalenopsis and soft fruit
Mrs P. Rolfe – rose one bloom, roses large flowered three blooms, pelargonium zonal and any other fruit
Mr J. Thompson – flowering tree/shrub three sprays
Mrs V. Miller – antirrhinums three spikes, gladioli three spikes, pelargonium ivy leaf and one plant busy lizzie pot maximum six inches
Mrs P. Mills – dahlias decorative one bloom, one begonia bloom and fuchsia three stems
Mr B. Rolfe – dahlia cactus one bloom, dahlias vase of mixed types and African marigolds five blooms
Mr L. Brownlee – dahlias three blooms any other type and foliage pot plant maximum six inches
Mrs T. Baldwin – gladiolus one spike, fushia and rock cakes four
Mrs M. Metcalf – hydrangea imopphead
Mrs J. Braisby – hydrangea arborescens and foliage pot plant over six inches
Ms S. Carruthers – hydrangeas lace cap one head
Mr J. Franklin – sweetpeas bush grown
Mr R. Wilde – begonia corm type and succulent
Mr R. Westwater – pelargorium regale
Mrs G. Klemenz – flowering pot plant maximum pot six inches and floral hanging basket
Mr G. Fordyce – flowering pot plant over six inches
Mrs G. M. Ford – cactus
Mrs V. Clarke – trough of flowering plants
Mrs A. Fisher – tomatoes dish of three, collection of vegetables and rhubarb three sticks
Mr R. Norton-Wight – tomatoes cherry dish of six
Mr R. Sullivan – any other vegetable
Mrs M. Welch – jar of jam and sausage rolls four
Mrs K. Hillier – cherry and almond cake
