A St Mary’s House spokesperson said: “The critical plaudits that have greeted Mark Bebbington’s performances and recording have singled him out as a British pianist of the rarest refinement and maturity.

“Now internationally recognised as a champion of British music, Mark has given concert and CD premieres of major British composers, including Vaughan Williams, Arnold Bax, John Ireland and William Alwyn.

“His most recent CD recordings of British piano music have met with rapturous acclaim.

“As the principal exponent of the music of John Ireland, the most famous of our local composers, Mark will play Ireland’s masterpiece Sarnia – a depiction of aspects of the Channel Islands, where he lived happily for a time.

“We have great pleasure in welcoming Bruce Phillips, Chairman of the John Ireland Trust, who will give a brief introduction to Ireland’s work.

“Mark’s forthcoming concerts include a tour with the Czech National Orchestra, concertos with the Royal Philharmonic and London Philharmonic Orchestras, his New York recital debut, and a three-week tour with the Israel Camerata Chamber Orchestra.”
