Art sale to be held for Christmas shoppers

SUMPTUOUS textiles, exclusive contemporary paintings and prints and designer jewellery are promised at St Matthew's Church in Tarring Road, Worthing.

Contemporary frames and mirrors and handmade Christmas cards and decorations will also be on offer for an event dubbed "one of the best-kept shopping secrets on the south coast".

Artists And Makers At Christmas, on Friday, November 30 and Saturday, December 1, has been running every year for five years.

Event spokesman Dan Thompson said: "The event has become a firm favourite with art lovers and Christmas shoppers alike, attracting hundreds of visitors in one evening and one day. For the 2007 event, the Revolutionary Arts Group have lined up more artists and makers than ever before.

"Sue Harding will have her paintings, prints and cards on show, Sheila Guyatt will have painted driftwood decorations, watercolour paintings and cards on show, and Sarah Johnson will exhibit quirky papier-mache figures alongside colourful prints.

"Georgina Williams will show art-deco-style acrylic paintings, Dan Thompson will sell handmade cards, alongside collages, and photographers Andy Willo and Shaun Hines will make their debuts with the group.

"Helena Weaver will exhibit ceramic slab vases, Brighton artist Alexandra Dipple will bring contemporary-style handmade frames and mirrors to the event, Katherine Haynes will show lampshades, bags and hanging decorations made from dyed and melted bubble wrap, and Horsham jeweller Luna Russell will have work on show, too."

He added: "Textile arts will be well represented. Elizabeth Stiles will exhibit handstitched quilts that have won awards at regional shows, Arundel artist Linda Rush will be showing colourful contemporary rag rugs and handmade cushions, and the Costume Fairy will be bringing historic children's costumes - as well as some Christmas fairy sets."

It takes place from 7pm to 9pm on November 30 and 10am to 4pm on December 1.
