Bleak comedy from Ronnie

The Nonsense - heading for the Brighton Fringe Festival - offers a 55-minute, one-man, bleak comedy.

Its central character is Ronnie Taylor, ex-boxer and small-time gangster, who, while doing his daily training for a fight that can never take place, tells the audience his funny, compelling and ultimately tragic story.

Show spokeswoman Hazel Latus said: “The play, written by Kevin Cotter, finds a disturbing, yet credible way of dealing with the contemporary issues of child abuse, violence, and frightening moral conflict. It is at once lyrical and brutal; literary yet physically demanding.

“It was first produced at The Manchester Royal Exchange Theatre where it was directed by Andrew Kazamia who now plays the role of Ronnie in this new production, which is directed by his son Dino Kazamia.

“Father and son have worked together before. Coincidentally a short film, that Andrew wrote and directed and Dino had a small part in, was released on DVD by Guerilla films on May 2. Gooseberries Don’t Dance stars Sir Ian Holm and Penelope Wilton.”

The Nonsense will be performed at the Komedia Studio Bar on Sunday, May 15 at 3.30pm, Friday, May 20 at 6pm, Tuesday, May 24 at 6.30pm and Sunday, May 29 at 10.30pm.
