Lewes Lit online welcomes Lucy Atkins

Lucy is an award-winning author of four novels and several non-fiction titles. She is a Sunday Times book critic and has written for many publications including The Guardian, The Times, The Telegraph and The TLS. Lucy teaches on the creative writing masters degree at Oxford University.

The Guardian called her most recent novel, Magpie Lane “the word of mouth success of lockdown.”

Amanda is an author, critic and journalist.

Her most recent novel, her ninth, The Golden Rule, was inspired by both Patricia Highsmith’s classic Strangers on a Train and the fairy-tale of Beauty and the Beast.

It was picked as a Book to Look For in 2020 by The Times, The Sunday Times, The Daily Mail, The Financial Times and The Observer. Previous novels include Hearts And Minds and The Lie of the Land, which was a Radio 4 Book At Bedtime publication.

For more than 70 years, the Lewes Lit group has been running an annual programme of talks and readings by distinguished speakers from many areas of literary endeavour – novelists, poets, playwrights, biographers, historians, literary critics and travel writers, as well as illustrators and cartoonists.

Leonard Woolf was president of the Club from 1954 until 1969. The current presidents are Grace Nichols and John Agard.

In October 2015 the group became the Lewes Literary Society and adopted a new home.

Since then, in normal times, their events have been held at the All Saints Centre on Friars Walk.
