A bumper year for society

Spokesman Gary Prior said: “Hungarian viola player Eniko Magyar visits Steyning in May with a programme of music by Delius, Enesco, Bartok and Brahms. Her recent CD, which is regularly aired on Classic FM, of works by English composers has taken the music world by storm and critics have praised the warmth and passion of her playing.

“July sees the Society’s superb Steinway put through its paces with a recital by award-winning young pianist Alexandra Dariescu.

“Alexandra appears regularly as a concerto soloist with orchestras such as the Royal Philharmonic and the European Union Chamber orchestra.

“Her programme for Steyning includes works by Beethoven, Chopin, Schumann, Liszt and Debussy.

“The Chamber Players is a strings-based ensemble and in September they will be treating the Steyning audience to string trios by Beethoven and Schubert, but also pieces for oboe and strings by Britten and Mozart.

“In November, something a little different when the Society hosts a visit from Dutch jazz violinist Tim Kliphuis. Tim gives classical music the Stefan Grappelli treatment in partnership with pianist David Newton and bass player Len Skeat.

“And to kick-off the season on Saturday, February 26, the Aquarelle Guitar Quartet makes a welcome return visit.

“This exciting quartet made a terrific impression a couple of years ago, and they will be playing music from their new CD Dances including works by Boccherini, Piazzolla, Clarice and Sergio Assad and Andy Scott.”

Concerts are presented at the Steyning Centre and start at 7.30pm.
