Chance to learn about the cultural side of history

The history department at the University of Chichester has joined with colleagues from the Weald and Downland Open Air Museum, Pallant House Gallery, and the University’s Otter Gallery to teach the MA programme.

The open evening will be on Tuesday, September 3, from 5-7pm, hosted on the Bishop Otter Campus with visitors to be collected from the Main Reception near the Otter Gallery. During the session, applicants will receive an insight into the degree course as well as learning more about some of Chichester’s history.

The degree, which can be taken as a one-year full time or two years part-time course, aims to educate around themes of British cultural history, drawing on the resources of the local partners.

The core module in British cultural history will cover topics such as imagining rural England in art and literature, representing the First World War, diverse subjects including visiting lecturer Alwyn Turner who will teach on British music hall.

Alongside British cultural history the degree will include taught modules on France, the commemoration of war, approaches and methods and an introduction to making documentary film.

Head of the history department Hugo Frey explained; “We are really thrilled to be able to start this programme and coupled with the introductory session, I believe it will be a great way to open new dialogue with the students living in Chichester.

“This is such a cultured city we are sure to have some fantastic work.”

The degree starts on October 1.
