Crawley Festival comes to a close with '˜best ever' Mainstage

The festival started last weekend with the High Street Live concert and events in Queens Square.

Throughout the week there were more performances held in St John’s Church and The Hawth Theatre celebrating the town’s musical talent of people of all ages.

Festivities came to an end in the Memorial Gardens on Saturday June 27 with the Crawley Mainstage party.

It is Crawley’s biggest free arts and music celebration and is now in its tenth year.

Community groups and charities came together for a packed day.

This year the event’s chosen charity was the Springboard Project.

The afternoon was a great success with organisers hailed it on Twitter as the best it had ever been.

They tweeted: “Today was a marvellous day, #Mainstage15 was the best ever, what a way to celebrate our 10th birthday!”

From midday families flocked to the town centre park to enjoy activities including craft from the company Ginger Moo and Crawley community artist Jo Harrison from Make Bright.

The Ariel Company Theatre group provided drama workshops and people had chance to try their hand at DJ -ing with Tons of Sound.

Dr Bike was there from Cycle Crawley giving people checks and basic repairs to their bicycles while Crawley Wellbeing were giving out information about how to stay healthy.

For those interested in local food and drink there were stalls selling goods including beers, bread and cakes .

There were also cookery demonstrations of food from across Crawley’s broad cultural spectrum including Polish, Brazilian, Caribbean and African cuisine.

Continuing the festival’s musical theme there was an array of singing and dancing acts entertaining the crowds in the sunshine. Among them were musician Andy Moore, In Choir singers, solo female vocalists Livi Collins and Leah Sheriden and Indian dancers.
