Dazzled by guitar dexterity

Californian Walter Strauss plays the Ropetackle Arts Centre, Shoreham, on Thursday, May 12 on the back of his album Pulling Shadows.

Spokesman James Soars said: “Many of you will remember Walter from when he toured the UK in both 2007 and 2008 accompanying fellow Californian singer songwriter Corinne West, and now he’s back to tour the UK in 2011. Audiences will once again be dazzled by Walter’s dexterity in his playing of the guitar.

“Pulling Shadows was an album of many elements, a mix of vocal tracks and instrumentals that cover a multitude of genres, folk, world, country and classical. Walter will be releasing a brand-new album to be available on the 2011 UK tour.

“Before embarking on his solo career, Walter had spent over 15 years playing at festivals and shows throughout the United States, Canada and Ireland alongside such notable performers as fiddle player Vassar Clements, Martin Simpson and The Burns Sisters Band.

“The past few years have seen Walter performing solo and with The Walter Strauss Trio comprising bassist Sam Bevan and percussionist Kendrick Freeman.

“A fan of any instrument with strings attached Walter has also toured as a duo with Malian kora master and 2005 Grammy-nominated artist Mamadou Diabate and has also performed with Malian kamal’ngoni player Mamadou Sidibe.”
