Fifth visit for pianist

Bernard d’Ascoli was born in the South of France and began learning the piano and organ at the age of eleven. In 1978, at the age of nineteen, he won first prize at the Barcelona International Piano Competition.

He first came to major public attention in 1981 following his third prize in the Leeds International Piano Competition. The Music Circle has had a long association with the Leeds competition and has regularly hosted concerts by the prizewinners. After his success Bernard first appeared for the Circle in 1983.

He has gone on to perform at many of the world’s most prestigious venues including the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Musikverein in Vienna, venues in Paris, Geneva, Brussels, Madrid and the Sydney Opera House. He has appeared with the leading London and British orchestras as well as with many major overseas ensembles and participates in international festivals.

His programme theme is The 1810 Generation - The Golden Age Of Romantic Piano which features the four composers born around 1810. He will play works by Mendelssohn -Variations serieuses, Schumann - Arabesque, Chopin - Ballades, Andante Spianato and Grand Polonaise Op.22 and Liszt - Les jeux d’eau a la Villa d’Este.
