Film review: Home (7 out of 10)

However, it’s fun to check them out every now and again to see just what the younger audiences are being offered.

And Home shows that there’s some pretty good material knocking about.

It’s the latest from the Dreamworks factory (Kung Fu Panda, The Croods) who seem able to come up with very different storylines.

This one is truly out of this world.

Jim Parsons (Big Bang Theory) plays Oh, an alien who none of his race, the Boov, are particularly fond of. He makes mistakes and is just too friendly to fit in.

The Boov are constantly running away from an aggressive enemy and their latest new home is Earth.

However, Oh manages to mess things up again and he’s on the run from his own people. He links up with an Earth girl called Tip and her cat and the two end up on a quest to save the planet.

First of all, the animation is quite amazing - it’s only when you look at similar format movies from, say, ten years ago you realise just how far we’ve come.

Parsons is excellent in this leading role - Oh is perfect for his style of humour.

Rihanna as Tip is sound enough and we get the bonus of a bunch of her songs for the soundtrack.

Steve Martin as the Boov Captain has some of the best lines, though.

Sure there’s a message in the movie about getting along with everyone and the value of friendship.

But youngsters will find Oh loveable and the whole pace of the film is such that there’s little chance to get bored.
