Harmony, hairdos and heavenly voices

Mari Wilson, Barb Jungr and Gwyneth Herbert join forces for Girl Talk: I Am Woman! at the Komedia Brighton on Sunday, December 13 at 8pm (tickets 0845 293 8480).

Spokeswoman Emily Coleman said: “Top British vocalists and performers Barb Jungr, the High Priestess of song-styling, and Mari Wilson, the Neasden Queen of Soul, are joined by quirky singer Gwyneth Herbert in harmony, hairdos and heavenly voices, with Simon Wallace on piano.

“This exciting programme features a diverse range of material from Bacharach to the B52’s, Rodgers and Hammerstein to Dolly Parton in a collection ranging from soul, pop and jazz to sublime ballads and more.

“Hairspray and mascara, sex and seduction, love and kitchen equipment combine in this hysterical, fabulously sung show performed by Britain’s best dressed divas, a night of glamour, song and humour to warm your hearts.

“New York voted Barb Jungr one of the top ten acts to appear there in 2008 and 2009. Barb also won the 2003 Backstage Award for Best International Artist and 2008 Nightlife Award for Outstanding Cabaret Vocalist in New York. Her many acclaimed albums have brought her to the world stage and revealed her to be one of Europe’s most exciting voices.

Mari Wilson arrived on the scene in the early eighties with her skyscraper beehive hairdo, bizarre sense of fashion and fully choreographed twelve piece band The Wilsations!

Gwyneth Herbert is a genre-defying singer-songwriter whose writing has been compared to Lennon and McCartney, Ray Davies and Janis Ian.”
