The perfect way to jazz up Sunday lunch

It takes more than great food to make a restaurant a destination venue.

Superb value, tip top service, a warm welcome, and a fantastic location are all vital ingredients too.

The Best Western Beachcroft Hotel at Felpham has it all.

The menu is always amazingly priced, the staff have the knack of making you feel the most special guests present, and perched on the seashore the beach views are stunning.

But now the restaurant offers even more.

To seal its reputation for the very best ambiance it hosts a variety of special events.

We returned on a Sunday to sample not only an excellent roast leg of lamb but some jazz too.

The Jazz Sunday Lunches are held once every two months and are already a hit - the restaurant was full when we arrived.

The band Take Five know their audience.

Nothing was jarring or out of place. Instead, the musical repertoire was reminiscent of a sleepy, sunny Sunday in the sixties.

Clearly the diners loved it. There was warm applause after each number, and generous breaks too so that the jazz never encroached on the conversation.

There are other events in the diary too.

Steak Fridays, Beachcroft Party Nights, Steak and Jazz Nights, Fish Thursdays, Valentine Events, and a Summer Ball.

Value, like the customer, is king.

In addition to the A La Carte menu, the Sunday roast of the day is just £9.95 and it comes with a generous selection of seasonal vegetables. The roast potatoes are yummy.

And you can add a starter or dessert for just £4.25.

The Steak Fridays are equally tempting. Two 8oz sirloin steaks and a bottle of wine for just £29.95. The steaks are served with grilled vine tomatoes, mushrooms and parmentier potatoes.

Fish is a particular speciality - with the freshest fish caught locally.

There’s a host of other offers too - like kids under 12 eat free when accompanied by a main meal paying adult.

There is a huge choice of food. Not only is the menu wide-ranging, but there is often a great selection of specials too. And the servings are plentiful - so no-one goes home hungry.

Quality is top notch.

The smoked salmon mousse was light and delicate as a starter; and the grilled fillet of salmon for main served on a bed of creamed leeks with crab and crushed new potatoes scored top marks.

Of the desserts, there is something to suit every sweet tooth - and the apple, pear and ginger crumble was proclaimed a masterpiece.

Personally, I prefer cheese and biscuits and the Beachcroft’s is amongst my favourite.

When we visited, the restaurant manager on duty was Joe Drew. Nothing was too much trouble and he was genuinely welcoming. We liked him enormously.

But then the Beachcroft is run with true family values at its heart.

Thanks to the clear ethos of owner Robert Warham and manager Phill Roberts, this sense of care underpins everything about the Beachcroft - and it is no surprise that it is a destination venue for wedding receptions and parties.

The hotel has excellent facilities. Most rooms have ocean views - and it offers some tremendous wedding packages.

It has scooped many awards - like the 2014 Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence, the 2014 Booking.Com Service Award, and the Visit Britain Breakfast Award.

And customers who sat near us could not speak more highly of the Beachcroft. Like the jazz, that was music to everyone’s ears.
