Photographic treasure hunt

Fotothon is a photographic treasure hunt in Brighton this summer, offering competitors a series of subjects from which they have to create images for submission with the chance of winning thousands of pounds worth of valuable prizes.

It is the brainchild of photographers Chris Cook, Ian Pack and Ben Potter who want to create the greatest one-day photographic event in the south-east of England.

Chris said: “Fotothon takes place in Brighton on Saturday, June 11, starting at 12 noon and finishing at 5pm with an optional extension until midnight if your creative juices start flowing. There will also be an exhibition by big guns from the photographic industry and free goody bags for every entrant.

“There is even a SE England inter-camera club competition with a prestigious trophy for the top camera society photographers.

“All entered images will be displayed in an online gallery with the opportunity to be seen and sell to the world. Winning entries will be included in a printed full-colour Fotothon 2012 calendar.”

Entry is now open via the Fotothon website www.fotothon.co.uk. You can also keep in touch through “Foto Thon” 500+ friends on Facebook and Twitter.

Chris added: “A proportion of each entry fee will be donated to the Brighthelm Centre to help with the excellent work they do for the needy and homeless of Brighton.”

Chris is a team leader there: “If nothing else, we hope to raise awareness of the plight of local people who are down on their luck.

“Competitors do not need the latest digital gear to compete. We quite expect to see people with old-fangled film cameras on the day. The event is open to anyone who owns a camera (pin hole to mobile phone) from nine to 90-plus years old. Entries will be judged anonymously by a panel of experts who will be looking for originality and creativity in interpreting the series of clues.

“Brighton is a very cosmopolitan and accessible city for everyone. All the clues have been designed with access for anyone in mind. The event will also create a unique snapshot of a day in the life of this exciting city. We already have a huge prize pot.”
