Pianist Arta returns

Latvian pianist Arta Arnicane returns to Worthing Assembly Hall on Sunday, October 9 to perform alongside Worthing Symphony Orchestra for the first time since winning the first Sussex International Piano Competition last year.

Arta received her first international recognition at the age of 11 when she won the second prize and Bach Award at the Ibla Grand Prix competition in Italy and has subsequently won prizes at competitions worldwide. In addition to solo recitals and appearances with orchestras, Arta is a keen chamber musician and has performed with members of the Kremerata Baltica Ensemble.”

Spokeswoman Gemma Nethersole said: “At the concert with Worthing Symphony Orchestra, Arta will play two virtuosic works from the 19th century. Carl Maria von Weber’s Konzertstuck, which is a poetic fantasy based on the story of a noble princess awaiting the return of her heroic knight. The piece follows the princess’s varying moods, ending in a rush of joyful excitement as her prince arrives.

“In celebration of the bi-centenary of the birth of Franz Liszt, one of the greatest piano virtuosos and most romantic composers of the 19th century, Arta will perform Piano Concerto no 2 in A major which combines intricate melodies and harmonies with pianistic excellence.

“The orchestra will also include Grieg’s popular Peer Gynt Suite which is set in Norway and includes the popular Morning and In the Hall of the Mountain King before the concert closes with Tchaikovsky’s popular and uplifting early symphony, Little Russian, one of his sunniest creations including a heroic, exuberant finale.”
