“We have received nearly 80 entrants this year compared with 32 in 2014 and they are coming from the length and breadth of Sussex and Kent to take part,” said Robert.

The auditions for The One are well and truly underway and because of the number of entries and the quality of the entrants the organisers have taken the decision to add an extra final on Sunday, March 15, in addition to two scheduled for Saturday, March 14.

Robert said: “Hereward and I looked very closely at the age range of the entrants and have decided to split the categories down to give more youngsters the chance to experience live performance.

“So the three finals will mean that we’ll have nearly 50 artists given a chance to shine.”

The revised categories will be 11 to 13-year-olds, 14 to 15-year-olds, 16-year-olds in a category of their own and then 17 to 24-year-olds.

Hereward said: “We are trying to create an environment where young artists can develop their skills, get opportunities to perform and get a better understanding of the music business.

“So by breaking down the age categories we are helping to do that.”
