Sam Kelly drums up support for Chestnut Tree House with rock trio

Internationally acclaimed drummer Sam Kelly heads for Ashington Community Centre with his ‘Groove’ Band on Saturday, February 1.

The group will be supported by the fabulous Vintage rock ’n’ roll trio and any profit from the evening will be donated to Chestnut Tree House Children’s Hospice.

Sam Kelly’s Station House has been featuring on the music circuit for many years. Led from the drumseat by Sam Kelly (included in Blues in Britain magazine’s ‘Gallery of Greats’), the band also boasts Paul Jobson (M.D./keys/vocals), Andy Hodge (bass/vocals), Michael ‘Lally’ Carey (guitar/vocals) and Jerome Marcus (percussion/b.vs).

Members of Sam Kelly’s Station House spent much of 2013 in Europe, performing at festivals and clubs across Germany, France, Switzerland and Austria, as well as performing at a variety of music venues and at many of the established clubs on London’s music scene.

Their musical catalogue includes Johnny Guitar Watson, Keb Mo, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Marley, Gary Moore, Stevie Wonder, Little Feat, to name but a few. Their unique sound is influenced by New Orleans second line, soul, jazz, calypso, reggae and British funk.

With three ‘lead’ singers supported by percussionist and internationally acclaimed drummer, the result is an eclectic fusion of music with its roots firmly based in the blues.

Over the years Sam has worked with Chaka Khan, Dr John, Ben E. King, Robert Plant, The Foundations, Gordon Haskell, Billy Ocean, Desmond Dekker, Eddie Floyd, Roger Chapman, Michelle Shocked, Stan Webb, Ottis Taylor and Gary Moore. Sam played drums on Gary’s last R&B album ‘Bad for you Baby’.

Sam works all over the UK and in many areas of Europe, stamping his brand on all genres of music, from blues to rock, R&B, funk, soul and reggae. With a delicate sensitivity to rhythm and a great understanding of dynamics in music, he has earned the respected position of musical director for Soul Britannia.

Sam has also been honoured in Blues in Britain’s ‘Gallery of Greats’ after winning ‘UK Drummer of the Year’ for five years.

The gig starts at 7.15pm. Doors open 6.45pm

Tickets for the event cost £20 to include fish and chip supper.
