Saw Doctors at race meeting

An afternoon’s racing will be followed by a live concert by The Saw Doctors on October 1 at Fontwell Park Racecourse at Southern Water’s Irish Saturday Charity Race Day.

Event organiser Kevin Buck, from Southern Water, said: “Irish rock band the Saw Doctors have just returned from an American tour, played several UK festivals and released a new single, English Summer.

“Their UK and US tours are constantly sold out, and the band has long been a favourite at festivals such as Glastonbury, ensuring them a cult following across the UK. This will be their fourth race-day appearance.

“This is our fifth charity race day at Fontwell and we’re lucky enough to have The Saw Doctors headlining once again. Race-goers can expect a fun day for all the family which, most importantly, raises huge sums of money for charity. Last year’s event saw 6,000 people through the doors, and we hope this one will top that.”

Fontwell marketing and commercial executive Emma Newbery said: “The Irish Saturday race day has become a firm favourite with both racing and live music fans. We always have a huge amount of fun and raise lots of money for charity.”

Last year’s event raised £80,000 and, in total, the race days have raised more than £310,000.

It will be raising money for seven charities: St Barnabas House Hospice, Chestnut Tree House Children’s Hospice, Kent, Sussex, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, AAIR, asthma charity, Macmillan Cancer Care, Help for Heroes and WaterAid,

Tickets are £20 each, and under-15s go free. Advance booking entitles you to a £3 discount.
