Schools and orchestra ready to perform for packed house at King’s Church, Burgess Hill

Several schools and the Ten Pieces Community Orchestra are now preparing to perform to a packed house at the King’s Church, Burgess Hill, on Thursday, November 26 (7pm).

Working with partners West Sussex Music and Burgess Hill Symphony Orchestra, Ensemble Reza have developed the much acclaimed BBC Ten Pieces initiative and devised a project for seven schools (including Oathall Community College and Blackthorns, Harlands, St Giles, Bolnore Village, Holy Trinity and Northlands Wood Primary Schools) and a community orchestra for all ages and abilities.

The project is supported using public money from Arts Council England and other sponsors, including Haywards Heath Town Council and the Mid Sussex District Council. It aims to open the world of classical music to young people.

In a series of workshops led by Ensemble Reza, students have created their own music based on their chosen ‘Ten Piece’, which they will perform at the concert.

The Ten Pieces Community Orchestra, with more than 75 players (including several family groups) will perform these pieces as arranged by the BBC, including Grieg’s In The Hall of the Mountain King, Bizet’s Habanera and the Toreador Song from Carmen.

Organisers say the Ten Pieces Festival Concert will be a fantastic event with more than 350 musicians taking part. It will also include a performance from Ensemble Reza.
