Search is on for some tenors

THE Chichester Singers are keen to recruit new tenors as they contemplate a busy season ahead.

Director Jonathan Willcocks said he was hoping to reach out to anyone new to the area or perhaps coming back to singing after some time away.

“The Chichester Singers always seeks to attract good new singers in all voice parts at the beginning of the season, but this year we find ourselves particularly wanting to strengthen the number of tenors in the choir.

“I don’t want to give the erroneous impression that we are desperate for recruits in this or any other section. We are not.”

But as part of the process of renewal and moving forward, new tenors would be particularly welcome.

The Chichester Singers season of rehearsals is already underway, kicking off on Wednesday, September 8 at 7pm in the hall of Chichester High School for Boys, Kingsham Road, Chichester.

The 2010–2011 season of performances will include an exciting range of choral music, including: Parry – Blest pair of Sirens; Howells – Hymnus Paradisi; Handel - Messiah; Schubert – Mass in G; Handel – Dixit Dominus and Elgar – The Kingdom. The choir will also give performances on tour in Malta and Gozo in May 2011.

Jonathan added: “Prospective singers are very welcome to come and sing in a few Wednesday evening rehearsals without any commitment, following which membership is subject to a short audition with the musical director. The audition sometimes looms as an ominous hurdle to singers, but it is simply a short and informal opportunity to establish the range and control of the voice and to check that basic musical experience and ability is sufficient to allow the singer to learn the music in the available rehearsal time.”

Interested singers should call the choir membership secretary Wendy Bray on 01243 779428.
