Ska band ready to release album full of summer hits

A musician originally from Horsham is preparing for the launch of her band’s second album after raising enough money to record with a world-famous record producer.

Emma King plays saxophone for The Meow Meows who release Somehow We Met through their own Killer Ska label on Monday, July 29.

Producer Mike ‘Prince Fatty’ Pelanconi (Skints, Graham Coxon, Hollie Cook) locked the band in his Brighton-based Ironworks studio to capture the raucous energy of their live shows. The twelve brand new sixties-tinged tracks blend ska, reggae and garage rock to create an upbeat summer soundtrack.

Singers Hanna and Danny have moved on from singing about simple hedonism with lyrics reflecting on life in Coalition Britain, expressing solidarity for incarcerated Russian fem-punks Pussy Riot, and picking apart doomed relationships.

Having run a successful PledgeMusic campaign (www.pledgemusic.com/projects/themeowmeows), Emma and The Meow Meows were able to fan-fund their album with pre-sales in return for providing pledger exclusives including bespoke jewellery, original artwork, and ‘abusive phone calls’.

In the three years since their debut the musicians have earned rave reviews touring the UK and supporting the likes of The Temptations, Reel Big Fish, King Blues, and The Skints.

The album launch party is set for Friday, July 19, at the Gladstone in Brighton, with Prince Fatty and Mutant HiFi playing supporting sets. Entry is free and attendees will have the first chance to buy the CD – a week before the official release.

Somehow We Met will be available for digital download via the usual outlets (iTunes, Amazon etc) and directly from www.themeowmeows.com.
