SLIDESHOW: South of England Show hoping for sunshine

Summer has finally arrived this week with sunshine and blue skies forecast for the region’s largest agricultural show - the South of England Show - taking place tomorrow, Friday and Saturday.

News of some good weather will be a welcome relief for all involved and despite having faced the worst winter and spring weather on record, the strength of character of the farming community from across the South East will be in evidence once again at the famous Ardingly showground.

Every day visitors will be able to see over 760 examples of beef and dairy cattle, sheep, pigs and goats on display and champions and owners alike will have their moment of glory in the livestock parade which takes place daily in the Ardingly ring.

The show celebrates all aspects of British country life and President of the Society, Penelope Keith CBE DL, will bring her very own slice of the ‘Good Life’ to this year’s show by opening a new ‘World of Poultry’ exhibition dedicated to the Society’s 2013 theme - ‘Poultry’.

Central to the show is farming and prize-winning British livestock, but organisers say they aim to provide something for everyone from exciting arena displays such as the Bolddog Lings Freestyle Motorcycle team to a host of children’s activities including a fun fair, farming and wildlife area, fly fishing and educational displays.

With over 1,500 horses entered this year, equestrian events and world class showjumping feature heavily throughout the three days and this is complimented with many countryside and agricultural attractions, as well as regional food & wine, wonderful entertainment and music and hundreds of trade stands.

Gates open at 9am and close at 6.30pm daily. There is free parking at the show and a regular bus shuttle service available from Haywards Heath train station to the showground.
