Sparkling rock from flamboyant Flairz

‘The greatest glam rock band in the world.’

That’s what Crawley-based Flairz calls itself – and if the costumes of the band members are anything to go by they are certainly a big act with plenty of panache.

The band plays The Balcombe Club, Stockcroft Road, Balcombe, on Saturday, February 28, with charismatic frontman Zodiak Starchild likely to be wearing his signature top hat, glitter gold flares and red jacket, which reveals a very ’70s hairy chest.

The guitarist, with a range that covers the hits of Noddy Holder, Donny Osmond and Suzi Quatro, will be heading up the gig on what will be the band’s 23rd anniversary.

Duff the Boy Hellfire is the name of the band’s bassist, with drummers Stix Lixx and The Queen of the South possibly appearing on stage together for an occasion that will radiate all the glitz from the sparkly-spangly era that was the ’70s. The band plays favourites from Abba, Sweet, Mud, T. Rex, Slade, Showaddywaddy, Suzi Quattro, the Rubettes, Wizard, Bay City Rollers and many more classics that have all left their mark on rock history one way or another.

The event promises to be the ‘best party in town’ with the audience invited to dress up. A £25 prize is on offer for the best glam rock outfit and a ’70s buffet should add to the fun.

Tickets are £11 from www.balcombeclub.co.uk or by calling the club on 01444 811226.
