The production was considered to be against public decency for dealing with issues such as incest, illegitimacy and prostitution.

Vivie has been brought up by strangers paid to look after her. Her mother, Mrs Warren, visits once a year to pay bills and organise Vivie’s life. However, Vivie does not know anything about her mother’s life, who her father is or what business her mother conducted abroad.

Vivie’s education is now complete and she wants answers to her questions. But when she receives them she is shocked by the revelations and has to make some hard decisions about her future, not necessarily in the direction her mother had hoped for.

The show runs from March 24 to 28 and March 31 to April 4. Performances start at 7.45pm. Tickets cost £8.50 for members or £10 for non-members.

The Archway Theatre Company is also holding auditions for its July production of Fawlty Towers.

Meet in the theatre’s bar at 7.30pm on Monday, April 6.
