Comedy classics at the Hawth

The Hawth has gained a reputation as being a comedy hot spot, and with Milton Jones and Al Murray already sold out this season plus many more great comedians coming up, the beginning of 2013 is no exception.

Hardeep Singh Kohli returns to the Studio with Indian Takeaway, a mission to find the best Indian takeaway in the UK, on Friday 8 February 7.45pm.

Hardeep will order a takeaway live on stage for delivery to the theatre, having selected one from audience suggestions submitted via HardeepLive.com.

He will then race against time to cook his own feast before the takeaway arrives. Along the way, he’ll be sharing recipe tips and wonderful stories of his shared Scottish and Indian heritage.

Edinburgh Comedy Award nominee 2012 James Acaster comes to the Studio on Saturday 9 February 7.45pm, with his show Prompt.

Prepare yourself for flights of fancy, remarkable gesticulation and maybe even some tempo changes. One thing’s for sure - you will go absolutely bananas. James’s TV credits include Russell Howard’s Good News, Show and Tell, Dave’s One Night Stand and Live at The Comedy Store. He also recently supported Milton Jones at The Hawth.

On Wednesday 13 February, Cornish funny man Jethro returns to The Hawth. Always slightly on the edge, Jethro’s fruity humour turns everyday events into farcical stories, embellished into hilarity with his trademark West Country dialect. Tales told with such effortless rhythm, timing and charm that it just melts seriousness into pure laughter. (Suitable for ages 15 plus)

The Hormonal Housewives are back, and this time they mean business on Friday 22 March at 7.30pm.Following their hugely successful 2012 tour, the girls return with hilarious new sketches and the very best bits from last time round plus this time Toyah Willcox takes on a leading role.

Looking at everything that makes today’s woman tick (or ticked off) - from the joys of teenagers, to the hell of IKEA, the madness of holiday reps and the insanity of DIY. Is your man more James May than Christian Grey? Then grab your girlfriends, and head down to The Hawth.

Saturday 11 May 7.45pm sees Daniel Bye examining The Price of Everything in the Studio - How much is beauty worth? What will people pay for an air guitar on eBay? Can I have a glass of milk? These urgent questions and others are answered in a performance lecture about value, with bizarre facts and arguments it is comic, provocative, and possibly a tiny bit sad.

A must if you’ve ever wondered about the difference between the price of an object and its value. And you get a free glass of milk.

The Reduced Shakespeare Company are back all the way from the USA with The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged) (revised) on Tuesday 14 May at 7.30pm. This irreverent, fast-paced romp through the Bard’s plays was London’s longest running comedy - 10 years in the West End, so join these madcap men in tights as they weave their wicked way through all of Shakespeare’s comedies, histories and tragedies in one wild ride that will leave you breathless.

Finally for this season on Wednesday 22 May the Studio hosts Boxed In - A Comic Package of Warehouse Life. Outside, economic disaster looms – bankers jump out of skyscrapers, there’s a run on the pound, house prices collapse. Inside, oblivious, they squabble. Dumbfounded when their warehouse world crashes around their ears, they venture outside.

They find themselves in a bleak wasteland where they confront the absurdity of life with comic precision. Boxed In is Clown Theatre, hilarious and moving in its celebration of dreams over drudgery.
