Danny’s Comedy Club gets second venue

That’s the business of comedy and Danny’s Comedy Club in Haywards Heath is no exception.

Now firmly established on the national comedy circuit, this popular venue recently celebrated its first birthday.

Not only has it survived but the Club’s owner and producer Daniel Kington has announced a second venue, opening at the prestigious Arora Hotel in Crawley.

“We’re all very excited about it,” said Daniel. “We’ve been very kindly offered the Arora Hotel’s Longley Suite to try out a sample show in September and from there we hope to introduce regular shows on the first Friday of every month. It’s got a great stage area and more room for the cabaret-style seating that makes us so popular with audiences.”

Daniel is keen to emphasise that the second venue will be in addition to the shows already taking place at the Birch Hotel in Haywards Heath.

Meanwhile, some regular audience members were disappointed to find that there was no comedy show at the end of May.

Danny was happy to allay any fears: “There was nothing sinister about our absence. The venue at the Birch was booked for a wedding last month, that’s all.”

The club continues to attract quality acts from all over the country and the next show is on June 27.

This month’s headliner, multiple award winning comedian Pat Cahill combines off-beat jokes with songs about dying pets and choice fatigue. His unpretentiously surreal outlook has seen him win numerous awards, and as a finalist in the BBC New Comedy Awards, secured him firmly in the One-to-Watch category.

Gary Tro started performing his self-deprecating, observational story-telling stand up in 2010 and has since performed to great acclaim at The Comedy Store, London and Manchester and the Komedia in Brighton.

James Ross is an award-winning improvisational comedian and founder of Fat Kitten Improv.

Australian Nick Elleray has lived in London for the past fifteen years. Now much in demand on the comedy circuit, in 2013 he made it through to the heats of the BBC Radio Comedy Awards.

East London based stand-up and radio presenter, Steve McLean has an energetic style with some cracking wordplay. He has recently supported top billing comedy acts like Andrew Maxwell, Sarah Pascoe, John Hegley, and Nick Revell.

Zahra Barri hit the stand-up scene in 2011 and has since been a 2013 Bath New Act of The Year Finalist, a Funny Woman (in association with Company Magazine) Finalist, Laughing Horse New Act at Brighton Fringe Finalist, Comedy Cafe New Act 2012 Finalist, beaten ‘The Frog’ at The Frog and Bucket and reached the Semi Finals of The Piccadilly New Act of The Year Competition.

Also an actor, she has featured in Radio 4 comedies and the Radio 4 ‘Poetry Please Show’.

A relative newcomer, Bristol-based George Rigden is currently taking the comedy world by storm.

He has already gigged with celebrity comedians such as Phil Nicol, Lloyd Langford and Rob Beckett and has just been booked to perform with Russell Howard and Patrick Monahan later this year.

Danny’s Comedy Club will also feature a special guest singer.

Doors open at 7.30pm with curtain up at 8.30pm. The Club features cabaret-style seating, a reasonably priced bar, good food and ample, free parking onsite.

Admission is £7 on the door with tickets also available in advance at the Hotel reception.
