Hurst Players offer opportunities in all departments!

The Hurst Players have taken advantage of lockdown for a spot of socially-distanced housekeeping while the venue remains shut.

As spokeswoman Anne Hopper explains: “Those passing by the Players Theatre – at a safe distance, of course – should have been impressed by the work in hand by members of the company. With the auditorium now fully refurbished, though to date largely unseen by audiences due to lockdown, the Players’ attention is now focussed on the building’s exterior and contents.

“Time and energies that should by now have been devoted to the third of the company’s total of five productions during 2020 are concentrated on rebuilding scenery and properties and smartening up the exterior of the old building.

“One might be forgiven for thinking that a future production of Barnum was in preparation owing to the eagerness with which members were scaling ladders and leaping from one flying buttress to another!

“There seems little likelihood of COVID-19 restrictions being eased in time to rehearse the September Hurst Festival production of Richard Harris’s comedy Outside Edge. We had hoped to reopen with our proposed Christmas production of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol but this, too, has been postponed.

“Meanwhile, we are happy to welcome new members because we have an unrivalled opportunity at the moment to make use of new talent, whether acting, directing, stage management, sound or design. And to be honest at the moment we would welcome with open arms anyone who is handy with a paintbrush! Or good working at height with or without a harness!”

Anyone interested in getting involved in any capacity should get in touch via hurstplayers.org.uk.
