Smart adaptation of Bram Stoker’s book

Blackeyed Theatre, in association with South Hill Park, brings a horror classic to The Capitol, Horsham on Wednesday, November 20, at 7.30pm.

The Berkshire-based theatre company is touring Bram Stoker’s Dracula, adapted for the stage by John Ginman.

The classic Victorian thriller takes on a fresh lease of life in this newly commissionedpiece.

Drawing eclectically on forms of popular entertainment that were established or emerging at the time, this vibrant and brilliantly creative version of the story aims to remain faithful to the original novel.

Bram Stoker’s book embodies the struggle to break taboos, resist temptationand stop the unknown outside becoming the enemy within.

As Dracula’s shadow looms large over England, a small group of young men and women, lead by Professor Van Helsing, are locked in a struggle for survival where only the fittest will survive.

Featuring specially commissioned live music by Ron McAllister, powerful ensemble performances and innovative design, Dracula promises an exciting and thought-provoking theatrical experience.

Director, Eliot Giuralarocca, said: “I was really keen to draw on the wide range of theatrical forms that were popular at that time and I wanted to put together an ensemble of strong storytellers – creative and versatile performers that could sing, move well and play an instrument.

“I’m really excited with the team we have in place.”

He continued: “We have all the ingredients needed to create something exciting, memorable and thought provoking. I’m hoping we’ll give the audiences somethingthat they can really get their teeth into.”
