TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON

AT LAST a sci-fi movie that actually lives up to its trailer.

This latest film in the Transformers saga is, thankfully, better than the last one and certainly on a par with the first.

If you like action then its got pots of it. In fact I felt worn out by the end of it - though 157 minutes of staring through 3D glasses is more than enough for anyone.

Having saved the world, twice, our hero Sam Witwicky (LaBeouf) has a new girlfriend (Huntington-Whiteley) but no job when we catch up with him.

However, fate is about to drag him into another do or die situation as the Transformers discover a secret that the human race has been keeping from them.

It appears that the 1960s space race was triggered off by the fact that an alien craft was detected crashing onto the Moon.

Having also discovered in the recent X-Men movie that the Cuban crisis was the fault of mutants, I’ve thrown away all my history books.

The real stars of the show are the various Transformers and the Decepticons with Star Trek legend Leonard Nimoy adding his voice to the mix.

There are some amazing battle scenes with multi-storey buildings being felled and more vehicles than you can count getting trashed.

So thankfully LaBeouf is a good enough actor to hold his own among the dented metal and rubble.

For those of you wondering whether it’s worth stumping up the extra money for 3D, I reckon the effects are as good as Avatar.
