This week’s film releases - August 29

It may seem a quiet week for film releases, but there are some interesting ones to watch out for - and not a super-hero in sight!

One I’ll be seeing is Million Dollar Arm (PG) which has already been given praise by some critics and is based on a true story.

Jon Hamm plays JB who decides to look for Major League Baseball players in a very strange place - among a bunch of talented Indian cricketers.

It also stars Alan Arkin who has an amazing CV behind him after many years of top performances.

Night Moves (15) is the latest film from Kelly Reichardt, a fascinating director whose work needs an open mind.

In her latest project, an impressive cast, including Jesse Eisenberg, Dakota Fanning and Peter Sarsgaard, are involved in a story about environmentalists looking to blow up a hydroelectric dam.

Obvious Child (15) sees Jenny Slate play comedian Donna Stern who has to get serious when she becomes pregnant after a one-night stand.

If I Stay (12A) stars Chloe Grace Moretz whose judgement of choosing films to work on has been pretty sound so far.

In this latest movie, her character ends up in a coma after a car accident. While having an out-of-body experience she has the choice of whether to wake up and live a very different life than she had planned.

The Grand Seduction (12A) sees the ever-reliable Brendan Gleeson and Taylor Kitsch in a tale of a small harbour town looking to get a factory and much needed employment and wealth.

However, it hangs on whether the residents can persuade, by fair means or foul, the one doctor around to live in the town permanently.
