The IT worker said an engineer had visited after a couple of days but he has not been given a date when his connection may be restored.

The 43-year-old added: “To not have any date – it’s a feeling of hopelessness really.

“Nobody is able to tell me what the problem is. No diagnosis, no time lines, it’s pretty crazy.”

Rory said BT have provided him with a 4G router but the speed he gets from it is far lower than on WiFi.

He said the outage was like someone had ‘turned off’ the internet and called on BT to provide more information about when his connection will be restored.

Rory added: “The internet is critical for my business. Two weeks later we have still not got any home connection.”

A BT spokeswoman said: “We’re very sorry for the delay in fixing Mr Raftery’s broadband service, and we’re doing everything we can to keep him connected by providing a 4G Mi-Fi device so he can remain online until the fault can be fixed.

“Unfortunately due to the nature of the fault, access involving traffic management is required and we are working with our network partner to confirm when access will be granted, and we’ll ensure to keep Mr Raftery updated.

“We work hard to keep all our customers connected and are investing in infrastructure right across the UK to make sure our customers get the best service they deserve.”
