Bungling burglars left empty-handed after breaking into Petworth Coop this morning.

The would-be thieves smashed through the Market Square shop at about 4am today (Monday, March 6).

It was then taped off by Sussex Police as officers investigated. Police have now left the scene.

A members of staff described the incident as a ‘nightmare’ but said despite the damage done to the shopfront, nothing had been stolen.

Sussex Police and Coop’s head office have both been approached for more information.
