The Faygate-based firm of D Durrant Removals and Storage - known across the district for its work with house moves - also holds an Environment Agency waste carriers licence.

And, with waste tips reopened but offering a restricted service, Durrants say they can help to collect large household items and waste that would normally be taken to the tip.

Figures are showing that, nationally, since the coronavirus lockdown, fly tipping has increased by 76 per cent across the country. And some areas have seen a 100 per cent increase, as people take on large spring cleaning projects.

Many people are also buying larger items to be delivered while they are at home during lockdown and are finding disposal of their old furniture a problem.

D Durrant Removals says it has a team available to collect unwanted beds, sofas, wardrobes, pianos and large furnishings, along with items such as trampolines and outdoor equipment.

And, if needed, they are also able to provide a full house clearance service.

Owner Jason Hayes said: “We have an exceptional team here. It is good to be able to provide this much needed service, and to help out where we can in the current crisis.

“Wherever possible, we suggest that the large items are left at the end of a drive, so that we may protect our staff and observe all social distancing measures when we collect; but for those unable to move heavy items themselves, whilst taking care to follow all of the Covid-19 safety guidelines, we will also access a property and remove the item if required.”

He added: “We are currently working within a 20-mile radius of Horsham and are trying to support everyone by keeping our costs to a minimum.

We would also like to offer a twenty percent discount, valid for the months of May and June to Crawley Observer readers, so please do mention the paper at time of booking.”
