Angmering teachers join nationwide PPE production line

The design and technology team at The Angmering School has begun work on producing 3D printed face shields, to help address the shortage of personal protective equipment for frontline medical staff.

The school has linked up with 3DCrowd UK for a nationwide initiative to make face shields during the coronavirus pandemic.

Teacher Jon McNamara began by making the school’s first headbands for the masks, using 3D technology.

He said: “We plan to continue production for as long as we are able.”

A team fundraiser was set up on GoFundMe by 3DCrowd UK, a team of volunteers across the UK, and so far, nearly £60,000 has been raised towards the costs of material and transportation.

The group said: “There is a critical shortage of medical PPE at the moment and even as the pandemic worsens, supplies are dwindling. Medical institutions around the country have reached out to the 3D printing community for help and support in overcoming the shortages.”

In addition, the school’s science department has donated all its personal protective equipment to the NHS to help keep our key workers safe.
