The children in school during that week took ownership of the work, which involved de-weeding the pond, laying pathways, setting up outside areas for the classrooms, designing and making bug hotels and creating a school allotment; we now have tomatoes, potatoes, pumpkins and courgettes growing

A school spokesman said adults and children created the areas to enhance the children’s education at the school and provide further opportunities to teach the children about the environment and important life skills and are some of the steps the school is taking to develop its wider curriculum.

Mr Benham, the early years representative said: “It was brilliant to see the children so engaged in this project. We now have these fantastic outside spaces for the children to learn in and because the children created these areas, they are continually maintaining them.

"The children have ownership of these areas. We gave them the ideas and the children worked hard to make them and add their own personal touches. We aim to continue regenerating areas around the school in the future.”

The school thanked P.Benham Groundwork of Barnham and Richard Jones Building Ltd of Bognor Regis for donating the building materials needed to help improve our school.
