A-levels: Delight at Oriel over '˜best ever' results

Students picked up their results from the school in Maidenbower Lane this morning (August 18) and many are now off to some of the country’s top universities.

Headteacher Philip Stack shared his delight as 99 per cent of students achieved passing grades.

Mr Stack said: “We are delighted for our Year 13 students.

“Their results are a credit to them, their families and the staff of Oriel High School and we wish our former Year 13 students every success for the future.”

Among the high-fliers were:

Kennagh Marsh, who earned an A* in biology, A* in chemistry, A* in religious studies and an A in maths and will study medicine at Oxford University.

Vish Dhaliwal earned A grades in biology and psychology as well as a B in chemistry and will study biomedical science at Surrey University.

Katie Tyson earned an A in maths and C’s in Spanish and biology and will join Nestlé’s Fast Start scheme.

Emma Tye earned A* grades in maths and further maths and an A in physics and will study Mathematics & Computer Science at Imperial College.

Matthew Spencer earned an A* in maths, A’s in chemistry and Spanish and B in physics, and will be taking a Sponsored Degree with KPMG.

Ellie Cummings earned B’s in maths and sociology and a C in psychology; Hannah Pollard earned an A* in psychology, B in geography and C in biology; and Jade Bracher earned C’s in English literature, fine art and history.

Some 52 per cent of the passing grades were at A*, A and B, while 19 per cent of all grades were awarded at A* for outstanding performance.

Mr Stack said this was a record for Oriel Sixth Form.

The Sixth Form also saw some impressive performances in the BTEC National results, with 47 per cent being awarded at Distinction* level (the grades being equivalent to one GCE ‘A’ Level Grade A*).
