Variety of Focus Day activities for pupils

Following our rescheduled Sports Day, Glebelands School in Cranleigh undertook their final Focus Day of the year on Thursday July 7 with Year 7 students going on a trip to Marwell Zoo.

Year 8 students took part in some year group bonding activities at Adrenaline Adventure which is an exciting and exhilarating facility based in Weybridge that combines high and low rope challenges. It’s fair to say that this activity was a real hit with those who went, many overcoming personal fears, with one student commenting ‘I never thought that I would be able to do this, but I did’.

Year 9 were engaged in two different activities across the day. For half of the day the year group were tasked with the Mathematical challenge ‘Changing Rooms’ - creating a scale-perfect house along with all the necessary accoutrements. The other half of the day was looking at the issue of domestic violence and abuse by watching a live and interactive drama production. This thought provoking piece of theatre was followed up with a teacher-led session examining this societal issue in more detail.

In Year 10, half of the students experienced the Bradford Business Game, run by local charity Surrey SATRO. In small groups, the students ran a company for the morning, had to manage their finances and prove that they could create a product and make a profit in a fictional business scenario. The historians in the year group spent the day at Arundel Castle undertaking their GCSE Controlled Assessment research into everything castle related.
