The competition was open to any child, aged between 4-11 at schools in Sussex, Surrey and Hampshire. To enter pupils had to create a poster promoting the importance of staying safe online.

James Stoner, managing director of JSPC, commented: “We’d like to thank everyone who entered our competition, we are delighted to have had so many wonderful poster designs.

We’ve had so much fun looking through the imaginative entries and we hope that our competition has raised awareness for this important cause.’

Having received over 1,000 entries, JSPC Computer Services selected another 20 runner-ups who will also receive a new Polaroid IS426 Digital Camera for their excellent poster entry.

Judging alongside James Stoner were Tim Loughton, the local MP of East Worthing & Shoreham, and Gary Shipton, Editor in Chief of this newspaper.

Tim Loughton, Local MP of East Worthing & Shoreham, commented: “Congratulations to JSPC for organising the poster competition and engaging such a large number of schools and pupils on this very important subject.

“Clearly a lot of work had gone into the hundreds of entries and trying to pick a few winners amongst them was a tough challenge. The biggest winner though has been to highlight the dangers that can face children on the internet and this is a great way of making sure that they always have safety in mind when going online.”

Launched in January, the competition aimed to raise awareness of Safer Internet Day which took place on February 10th, to help promote the safe, responsible and positive use of digital technology for children and young people.

Mr Shipton said keeping children safe in the digital world was of paramount importance. “Digital, in all its many forms, is a vital component of modern living - especially for youngsters. It brings huge benefits but there are dangers too.

“I was delighted to support this competition which raises awareness of some of the risks and congratulate JSPC for organising it. The winning entry was tremendous - but all the designs were excellent and it was a tough job judging the best!”
