The school will help to form part of the growing Kilnwood Vale development off the A264 at Faygate.

Developers Crest Nicholson and school operator GLF Schools - a multi-academy trust - say that building should be completed by next summer.

The new free school, and a nursery, will provide two classes per year group for children aged from two to 11, with the possibility of three classes per year group in future. The go-ahead was given by the Department for Education in April last year.

GLF was selected by the Education Department, the Education and Skills Funding Agency and West Sussex County Council as the school operator.

Andrew Dobson, Crest Nicholson strategic projects managing director, said: “The vision for Kilnwood Vale follows our core garden village principles: considering social, environmental and economic factors to ensure we’re not just building houses, but creating a sustainable and thriving community.

“We welcomed the first residents to Kilnwood Vale in 2014 and today over 600 people call the development home, making it one of West Sussex’s fastest growing communities.

“Our new primary school is a key part of our commitment to offer local families immediate access to the amenities and services they need.

“We’re excited for the future of the Kilnwood Vale community and are looking forward to the launch of our very own school next year.”

Education constructors Willmott Dixon are building the school. Project MD Roger Forsdyke said: “The requirement for a new school gives us the perfect opportunity to implement our tried and tested model which encompasses true efficiency in the built environment. We are delighted to be appointed to deliver the new school and recognise the pivotal role it plays in the wider vision that Crest Nicholson has for Kilnwood Vale. We are excited to contribute to what will be a thriving new community.”
