Burgess Hill mosque closes after person tests positive for Covid-19

In a statement issued to this newspaper on Friday (September 18), Mustak Miah, secretary for the mosque in Lower Church Road, said: “When we reopened our mosque with all covid safety measures in place, it was all going well until today, we have received some information that some one who regularly comes to the mosque have been ill and have been tested positive to Covid-19 so therefore we the committee have decided to close the mosque as a precaution to safety of general public until further notice.”

He said the committee will carefully monitor the situation before reopening the mosque again and will continue to listen to advice from health officials.

“We respect the rules and regulations that have been implemented by the government to safeguard us and abide by it,” he added.

“It is very sad to close it from the public but the committee thought this is the right thing to do at this moment of time to stop the spread of the virus.”

Mr Miah confirmed the person who tested positive for Covid-19 does not live in Burgess Hill but works in the town.

He is currently in self isolation in London, added Mr Miah.
