According to data released by Public Health England, the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in West Sussex now stands at 320, with another 229 in East Sussex and 153 in Brighton and Hove.

The number of people who have died from Covid-19 in hospitals operated within Sussex trusts are as follows:

Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust – 26 (Trust runs St Richard's Hospital in Chichester, Worthing Hospital and Southlands Hospital in Shoreham)

Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust – 6 (Trust runs community health services across West Sussex, Brighton and Hove)

Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust – 67 (Trust runs Horsham Hospital, Crawley Hospital as well as East Surrey Hospital in Redhill)

Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust – 14 (Trust runs Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton and the Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath)

East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust – 21 (Trust runs the Eastbourne District General Hospital, the Conquest Hospital in Hastings and Bexhill Hospital)

The first Sussex death was reported at Eastbourne District General Hospital on March 17, with the first death in West Sussex reported at Haywards Heath's Kleinwort Centre just under a week later.

The UK death toll now stands at 7,097, with another 938 deaths announced yesterday (Wednesday, April 8) – its highest daily rise in the number of patients dying with coronavirus. In the South East of England, 682 deaths have been reported.
