Hampers filled with morale boosting treats have been rolled out to NHS staff at St Richard’s and Worthing Hospital giving round-the-clock care to patients during the coronavirus pandemic.

The packs have been made possible thanks to public donations to the Hospital Heroes COVID-19 Appeal launched by Love Your Hospital, the dedicated charity of Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Trust volunteers kindly stepped in to help fill the packs which contain non-perishable items such as coffee, tea, soup, energy bars, biscuits, hand creams and lip balms.

Staff in emergency accommodation will also receive shower gels, toothpaste and toothbrushes while away from their homes and families.

The appeal, which was launched to support the health and wellbeing of hospital staff – including nurses, doctors, paramedics, domestic cleaners, pharmacists, porters and other healthcare professionals – has currently raised

more than £28,000.

Hanna Bryant, a staff nurse on the Critical Care Unit at St Richard’s Hospital said: “Support for Love Your Hospital’s appeal has shown us how much the local community cares.

“Thanks to amazing public support, not only will we be able to continue to provide care packs to staff who need them most, but we’ll be supplying kettles and ongoing supplies to newly created ‘quiet spaces’ where staff can take a well-earned rest during periods of intensive work.”
